Monitoring corrosion rates with ER-probes – a critical assessment based on experiments and numerical modelling

Electrical resistance (ER) probes are a technique used to monitor the corrosion rate (CR) of metals in wide range applications and industries. However, limited data comparing CR measured with ER-probes, weight loss electrochemical methods is available. The aim this work provide regarding reliability measurements ER-probes by comparison LPR, EIS suggestions for designing depending on expected mechanism CR. To evaluate measurements, both uniform localised four different environments were studied. CRs obtained showed good agreement measurements. Numerical models optimise ER-probe geometry type CR, study effect Joule heating. Design charts proposed support design concerning certain applications.
